Travel Fees

I will travel up to 60 minutes one way from my home in Urbandale to officiate ceremonies.

The first 15 minutes each way are included in your ceremony and rehearsal fees. After that, you incur a travel fee of $12.50 for each additional 15-minute increment of travel time each way ($50/hour).

Please note: The Travel Fee is on a “per day” basis. If you have a rehearsal you will be charged a traveling fee for rehearsal day as well as a traveling fee for the wedding day. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me.

Example: A wedding at Reiman Gardens in Ames

  • Reiman Gardens is approximately 45 minutes from my home
  • Rehearsal Day:
    • 45 minutes + 45 minutes = 90 minutes
    • Less 30 free minutes (15 each way) = 60 minutes
    • 60 minutes / 15 minutes = 4 increments of 15 minutes
    • 4 x $12.50 (fee for each 15-minute increment) = $50.00
    • $50.00 Rehearsal Day Fee
  • Wedding Day:
    • Same calculation as above
    • $50.00 Wedding Day Fee
  • Total Travel Fee: (Rehearsal + Wedding) = $100.00

Timing of Payment:

The non-refundable deposit and signed contract are required to reserve your date and time. Balance is due 2 weeks prior to wedding date. If payment is not received 2 weeks before wedding, only cash will be accepted before rehearsal begins. Please note: If final cash payment is not received prior to the beginning of the rehearsal, I am not obligated to perform your wedding.

Methods of Payment:

I accept online payments via Current (partnered with Dwolla)—after you sign up for a Current account, you can search for "Dawn Halstead" to send a payment. I also accept checks, money orders or cash.

Overtime/Late Charges:

I schedule 45 minutes for the rehearsal and 1 hour for the ceremony. For weddings and rehearsals that do not start on time, a fee of $25 per each additional 15 minutes beyond the allotted period will be charged provided my schedule allows me to remain past the allotted time frame. Often, however, I must get to another wedding or rehearsal immediately. You expect the same timeliness, courtesy and dependability from me as others do. Having your wedding party and family ready to start on time will make everyone happy and save you money. I recommend asking them to arrive 15 minutes prior to the time the rehearsal is scheduled.

Serving any alcoholic beverages prior to the rehearsal or wedding is strongly discouraged, as this can create delays in completing the rehearsal and can cause embarrassment during the wedding ceremony. You have put so much time, energy and finances into planning the perfect ceremony—please don’t let something like this spoil your day. You will have plenty of time to party afterward. I reserve the right not to conduct a ceremony or rehearsal if any of the wedding party appears to me to be intoxicated or high.

Non-payment of Services:

For non-payment of services by the time services are rendered, your marriage license will be held unsigned until all fees have been paid in full. The marriage license becomes null and void 15 days after the wedding date if not signed and recorded within that time. Payment is appreciated for all services 2 weeks before the date of the wedding to avoid any delay in processing your marriage license.
